The truth is easy to understand and logical, always makes sense.
The cause of body odor is a popular question.
I was watching Oprah and one of her recurring experts, Dr. Oz. Her show is a forum. Various views, opinions are presented and the listener is left the decision to decide his or her own opinion. Oprah likes to remain on the sideline. "Every day is new diet for her". She said this on one of her shows, which is why she has "experts".
The transformation, breakdown takes place in the stomach and small intestines. The stomach produces and mixes food and fluids with hydrochloric acid (HCl) and other enzymes specifically designed to digest animal protein and fat. This mixture sits and ferments before moving down into the small intestines for further digestion, absorption.
Proper diet, in general, per meal is 1/3 protein and fat, 1/3 grain (rice, bread, noodles), 1/3 cooked vegetables, 3-5, spices, fruit, soup and or tea.
The sour smell has been associated with the black race, but it has more to too with poor diet (high protein, high fat, fried foods, starch and not enough fruit and vegetables) than anything else, including big pores.
It's not race, gender and body odor, but instead diet and body odor.
On this show, there was a man and a woman. The man, overweight had really bad body odor.
Dr. Oz's first comment was that some people just naturally stunk, that for some unknown reason, they attracted the wrong, stinky kind of bacteria. It's just one of those things. A lot of education in those words.
Oprah jumped in and asked what about diet? Her intuition was kicking in.
Dr. Oz, blue fatigues and all, nodded in agreement, that if you eat onions and garlic, you smell like onions and garlic, but that the real factors were race and diet.
Oprah and her audience nodded in agreement. Her and her audience's intuition fly out the window
Dr. Oz went on to say that some races, specifically black, Afro American people tend to naturally stink due to big pores.
Oprah (black woman) and her audience nodded in agreement.
Hello!
He then went on to say that hormones make you smell,
What is the underlying statement, that women naturally stink due to hormones?
Oprah and her audience nodded in agreement.
Stop right here.
The above statements are not only total stupid but also racist and gender biased in my humble yet professional, unlicensed opinion.
I was a licensed Acupuncture Physician (FL 1992-2002). Nowhere in traditional Chinese or Ayurvedic medicines, both 5,000+ years old does it equate body odor to race or hormones for that matter, but instead diet, as everything, skin, pigmentation, organs, hormones, blood etc. is a function of food, nutrients, digestion, circulation, elimination, etc. . End of story
Food> Digestion> Absorption> Blood> Structure> Function> Health or Disease
The body digests, transforms food , nutrients into blood into structure into function, into health or disease, into good (normal, pleasing, attractive) or bad (offensive, overly powerful. lingering) body odor.
The body has two naturally occuring body odors: metabolic and sexual, musk.
The metabolic odor is sour. Digestion is a souring process. Every time you eat you stimulate the stomach, pancreas and liver to produce digestive acid, enzymes and bile.
The stomach is the first organ to receive food and fluid. It produces hydrochloric acid (HCl) and other enzymes (specifically designed to digest animal protein and fat) which it mixes with food and fluids. This mixture sits and ferments. Food is digested, broken down into smaller pieces, nutrients and non nutrients before being passed into the small intestines. Fermentation is a souring process It produces a sour smell. A certain amount of sour smell is normal.
Too much is abnormal.
There are two general causes to an excess, offensive and or pervading sour smell body odor, breath. One is dairy, especially milk, yogurt and cheese. The other is the stomach.
Milk, yogurt and cheese are foods are sour foods. The digestion and or deterioration of milk yogurt, etc. tends to produce a sour smell, body odor, especially when eaten to excess. There are many cultures, countries that eat little or no dairy, unlike Americans.
Those that consume milk, yogurt and cheese regularly, daily tend to have a sour smell, body odor, breath if their digestion is poor, weak.
Digestion breaks down, transforms, absorbs food, nutrients into blood.
Excess fermentation, too much digestion (time) in the stomach can occur when too much food has been eaten and or is blocked from moving down into the small intestines.
The stomach and small intestines are limited into size. While they do stretch, they also become less efficient and slower, when too much food, nutrients especially protein, fat and starch (meat, eggs, cheese, oil, pasta, bread, etc.) are consumed.
Protein and fat are thick, sticky nutrients that not only bind to the walls of the small intestines (where nutrient absorption occurs), arteries, veins, liver, heart, etc. Too much starch also tends to adhere, stick to the wall of the small intestines, not only reducing absorption but also size, as the diameter of the small intestines is decreased.
The stomach is like a sink and the small intestines, its pipe. When the pipe, small intestines clog, food, fluids and gas tend to back up and overflow into the stomach, which then overflows into the mouth, breath, skin, etc.
Excess weight (15+ lbs.), tight clothing, belt, laying down after eating, and or late dinners (after 7 P.M.) can also cause excess fermentation in the stomach, which is why it is good to take a walk after you eat, especially after dinner. The small intestines are 22+ feet in length. it takes time to move the food down, which is another reason why earlier meals are preferred.
Proper diet and weight loss, if necessary can eliminate, in general, excess sour body odor.
Proper diet, in general, per meal is 1/3 protein and fat, 1/3 grain (rice, bread, noodles), 1/3 cooked vegetables, 3-5, spices, fruit, soup and or tea.
Most excess weight requires less eating eating, spacing and or skipping meals,
Simple diet, white rice, steamed vegetables, chicken, bean, fruit, etc. eliminate most offensive body odors.
Women are more prone to the sour smell than men, due in large part to diet and menstruation.
Many women tend to eat low protein, low fat (milk, yogurt, cottage cheese, beans, nuts, etc.) and high carbohydrate (bread, noodles, salads, fruit, juices, etc.). This way of eating, in excess, combined with menstruation weakens, dilutes and slows digestion, causing excess fermentation, souring to occur.
The longer the food stays in the stomach and small intestines, the greater the fermenting dissolving of food, sour smell.
Menstruation, monthly (3-7 days) blood loss weakens, slows all functions including digestion, making women more prone to sour and or sweet body odor. The overly sweet, damp smell in general is caused by too many sweet, watery foods (fruit, vegetables, grain, milk yogurt, etc.).
The sour smell has been associated with the black race, but it has more to too with poor diet (high protein, high fat, fried foods, starch and not enough fruit and vegetables) than anything else, including big pores.
Men are more prone to the hot, putrid, stinky atom bomb body odor, sometimes smells like rotting fish due to diets that tend to be high protein, high fat, high starch, etc.
Men tend to overeat, clog their stomachs, with too much protein, fat and starch. They develop those high octane saturated fat animal farts, sour and stinky body odor that tends to spread out fast, come and get you unlike the sweet stinky farts, body odor that likes to hang in one place and surprise you.Certain races, Asians may tend to smell better due to their traditional, uniform diets, meal plans:*.
*1/3 protein and fat (meat, eggs, beans), 1/3 grain (rice, noodles), 1/3 vegetables (3-5, cooked), fruit, spices and tea, 2-3 times per day preferably breakfast and lunch
This diet tends to make you smell, feel and look betterIt's not race, gender and body odor, but instead diet and body odor.
The suggestion that body odor is caused by race and gender is racist and gender biased, in my professional, unlicensed and common sense opinion. I've played basketball most of my life. I've been around a lot of black people. I never noticed any new or body odor different from white people. I've also been married twice and been intimate with many women. I've never noticed a hormonal odor with the exception of menstruation, which is a blood (coppery, sweet)odor.
But then again, Oprah is a billionaire, Dr. Oz is a best selling author, in addition to being a good doctor among other things. He and Oprah and you are just a bit misguided and will pretty much always be unless someone slaps your in the face, metaphorically speaking, with the truth. The truth of health and disease are contained in my books: Hot and Cold Health (c) and Hot and Cold Diseases (c) 2008 if you have the balls (metaphorically speaking) to buy and read. I apologize to all women for using this language as they are the majority of my customers, support. Thank you. God bless women.

More commentsThis sour body smell is new to me. I eat low fat ice cream for lunch every day have good hygeine & healthy BMI, but the dairy explains that I should change my diet to remedy this new problem. Thanks!
Dr oz had an opinion if you really want to know about your body odor talk with your personal dr make sure what's causing it and treat the problem it could be hormonal diet bacterial. Seeing your dr could save you lots of money time and put your Mind to ease alot soonerMost MDs are not nutritionists or have knowledge of food-related health. Seeing a doctor may just lead to unnecessary drug prescriptions, rather than a simple change in the diet.
I'm not sure why people think Dr. Oz is all knowing on all problems with the body. He is a heart surgeon. Yes, he went to medical school but that doesn't qualify a person to be an expert on all things health related. His residency and fellowship were surgery.
Genetics definitely does have a part to play in BO. I have TMAU, which is a genetic cause of BO due to a faulty gene. Low protein diets can lessen the smell in some people with TMAU, but not all and there is no cure. You are entitled to your opinion, but please don't give people false hope by saying all BO can be cured by diet when it can't. You are trying to sell a product, but please keep your comments factual.
I do not think he was trying to give any false hope to anyone, since i have tried this theory and it worked for me.Of course i do not have TMAU, i am just saying that it works for most of us.
Ok. I'm 32. Busy single mom in the country. I teach yoga, I have my own practice. I have been eating naturally/organically for 9 years now... I am in fantastic shape. PROBLEM! I stink. Ok, the sour digestion thing makes sense. BUT its not that easy to work with in my case. Brief history.. 7 months ago my hair started to smell a musty smell only hours of being washed... A month or so later my skin. Under my arms and my chest area. A sour smell. I did a week long water only fast. Followed by a 15 day candita cleanse followed by a 6 week candita diet. Well both smells lessened but didn't clear up completely. Another problem came up. I was (still am) hungry all the time. I have only just recently been able to quench my thirst... I eat LOTS gain nothing ALWAYS hungry usually thirsty and I stink... I went for a live blood analysis to learn I was polluted with candita. So. I'm back on A candita diet. But A really strict one. No grain. No potatoes or yams mushrooms peas brand lentils tropical fruit legumes... Basically I eat meat and vegies... Nu I am starving... So I eat more meat and veggies.. Probably pack it in too tight... Still hungry... I am 5'9 and 125LBS. So. Now what? I eat less knowing I won't be satisfying hunger... I don't want o eat anything that will turn to sugar in my body! I'm told I'm half Kapha and half pita which are opposites each other... I'm confused and frustrated. I am told to b on this diet till October. OMG! Meat most veggies and very few fruit... It makes sense but not completly... The non stop hunger happened after my fast.... I'm so lost. You have Graves' Disease.
Yes, WOW...I 'hear' the truth you are stating...Thank YOU!
Sudden changes in Body order without significant changes in diet can be early indication of changing medical condition. After a lifetime of listinging to my body and monitoring the changes, I have been fortunate to address these changes early. I have recently noticed a significant change in my body order after exertion to a SOUR scent, over the last 3 months. After ruling out the washer, I am left with myself. I will now get a physical, advise the physician of the reason for the visit, and hopefully continue to be successful with early actions. I support HOLISTIC approach to health, including Chinese medicine. To rule out this additional information may prove very costly to longevity. Besides, "Any Day Above Ground Is A Good Day". Have an excellent day.
Richard, thank you for the post! I am a western medical student who recently changes to Oriental Medicine. What you are saying is true, but also there are other genetically disorders that are the precursor to body odor, specially the one that doesn't goes away with a simple diet like no meat or lacteos(milk, cheese, etc). Conditions like Trimethylaminuria caused by a genetic mutations unable to breakdown toxic compounds in the body and is also known as a metabolic syndrome, and commonly called the fish odor syndrome. When there is a deficiency of N-oxidation in the body, the trimethylamine-related material that is not breakdown in the body then it is expelled or excreted in the urine, breath, sweat, and vaginal secretions. The human sense of smell is very sensitive to trimethylamine, only a very small percentage of this secretion so anyone will smell a foul, musty, fish rotten like smell. There is no cure for this condition as to yet, but the percentage of people reporting episodes of bad odor that doesn't goes away is increasing very rapidly. Seems like some sort of diet triggers the disorder (the smell). A change in diet is high recommended, specially the elimination of choline, trimethylamine, and lecithin are usually effective in reducing the symptoms of bad odor. Milk, cheese and some types of seafood are great precursor of the symptoms. Now, I hate when the western medicine says there is no cure because it is a genetic mutation, and there is no effective treatment either. I will say there is a cure that haven't been found yet. For now I have succeed with drinking one lime(the green one),not lemon, squeeze in a glass of water in the morning on empty stomach every day. Also when an episode is present the lemonade will reduce or disappear the odor symptoms. This in conjunction with a diet low in choline and lecithin helps like a charm. Please don't eliminate choline or lecithin complete from your diet which may incur in future health complications unless directed by a physician. Trimethylaminuria is also the underlying cause for severe halitosis, and bromidosis (high perspiration, specially under arms). If you are unsure, talk to your doctor for a Trimethylamuria test. And by the way Candida doesn't cause an strong body odor smell, the majority of people are infected with Candida and doesn't have this peculiar smell or any of these problems. But people with Trimethylamuria are more propense to develop Candida overgrowth due to the high acidity environment in the guts and colon, a product or effect of the intestinal bacteria that creates the toxic smell, which is converted in odorless molecules by healthy people, but not for the ones with this condition. That is why the body get rid of the excess of trimethylamine that gives the person this distinctive, and pungent odor. Also most western medicine doctors are not prepared to help patients with this condition, due to their lack of knowledge, and in the vast majority of cases, the physician recommend the patient to see a psychiatrist. And talking about psychiatrist, the odor symptoms are triggered also by stress situations, and excessive exercise. Hope this help!
Race and level of smell have been proven to be greatly genetic. You should do some reading before you claim something is false.
